This year Mississippi celebrates its bicentennial. To celebrate this anniversary, Archives and Special Collections has just installed an exhibit titled Mississippi: 200 Years of Statehood.
Think of all our state's incredible contributions to American music.Mississippi has more Grammy Award winners per capita than any other state. From Meridian's Jimmie Rodgers ("Father of Country Music"), to Tupelo's Elvis Presley ("King of Rock and Roll"), to countless blues artists from the Delta, Mississippi music has become American music, which in turn has become the world's music.
Come view this new exhibit to find out more about not only popular and folk music artists, but classical performers and composers from the state as well. The exhibit is open M-F, 8-5 until December 11th.
